Hope for Josh

So I have a co worker who just was accepted for the teacher administration program at the University of Utah. As we were talking about it said to him, "I think you'd make a great principal. I'd vote for you." Then as we were laughing about the idea of voting for principals I decided that if he was going to run he'd need campaign posters and I needed to be the one to do them. So here it is. Vote Josh for Principal.

Crawling Out of the Shadow...

Holy Cow it's been a while since I've posted. I think of last summer and how I posted every day. Oh well right. I've had an incredibly fun year teaching art at Bingham High School, so I'll take it. Next year I get a computer lab in my room with Wacom tablets and the Adobe suite on every computer, so I'm trying to learn enough so I can actually teach my students. I still have a lot to learn, but another great thing about my job is I have the whole summer to work on my digital art! Looking forward to that. 2 weeks and I'm done!!!

Recent Project

This is the most recent project I've been working on. I'm not in love with it but it was definitely fun. I continue to venture farther into the digital world of art. I learned the photoshop technique by using a youtube video by Patrick Brown, who is an incredible illustrator.

More Experimenting

Just messing around. Trying to get better in the digital realm.

Work in Progress

I think it's kind of fun to see a painting in the early stages. Usually mine look so chaotic in the beginning stages you can hardly tell what is what. I enjoy making a huge mess in the beginning and tightening it up as I go. Somewhere along the way I find the right level of completeness that suits me. I have a long way to go on this painting still. Hopefully I will be diligent in posting the progress so you can see how I move through it.

Colored Robot

Here is the color version of my robot. I liked him enough to make him my friend.

More Practice

More attempts at digital painting. As long as I can stomach it I'll post it. That way I have sort of a journal per se showing me my progress.

Sigh...

It's been 10 years today since my mom passed away from cancer. I've worked through a lot of the emotions, but I think I'll continue to work through issues with her dying for the rest of my life. This painting is a little dramatic for how I'm feeling today. More than being sad, the anniversary of her death has become a sort of celebration of my mom's life with my family. But, I do from time to time have to take a breath and feel a little sad. :)

Brave Fan Art

I saw Brave last night for date night with my wife. It was awesome! I know a movie is a good one when it makes me want to come home and create more art. So here's a major plug for the movie. Hilarious, beautifully animated, fantastic storytelling, and superb character development.
This was done on painter. I'm still trying to figure out the digital thing to an extent, but it's more intuitive than I thought.

Retrying Digital Painting

I have previously not been very interested in digital painting, but I've been thinking lately that I need to keep up with the times. So I thought I'd pull out the tablet while on vacation and see what I could do. It's all one layer, and I still don't really know what I'm doing. I paint it very similarly to how I would approach a traditional painting, which I think is good, but I don't know the different tools I could be using! All in good time right. Hopefully there will be more digital paintings in the future.

digital

Digital is still very new to me but I am having a lot of fun with it. This was a fun little project called "I was in the house when the house burned down". Hopefully this guy will get some kind of settlement out of his home owners policy.

Jun. 28th, 2011 Looking back a year and a half later I almost can't even look at this painting...BUT, I keep it up anyways because it's a stepping stone. It is a reminder of where I've been and how much farther I still have to go!

Discovery of Digital Art!

I am taking a class right now with Don Seegmiller and he is teaching us how to do digital painting on corel painter. It has been a blast! This was kinda my first lesson that I kept up with and somewhat finished it. Happy Halloween!
