Pre Fired Santa House

After posting the previous post I realized I had only posted my Santa house as bisque (fired once). This is the Easter Santa house. I actually really liked the colors pre-fired, but I like the completed one a bit better. 

Christmas in June

This is the finished Santa house! I chose the glazes to be a subtle Christmas color scheme. I wanted red and green, but I didn't want it blatantly obvious. It definitely took some imagination though. Before it was fired it looked more like Santa got lost and emerged sometime around Easter based on the colors. All and all it was one of the most enjoyable projects I've ever done. It took way too long to ever make it profitable if I was to try and sell this bad boy, but it was totally worth it. I eventually want to build a whole Christmas village. P.S. If you look at the picture showing the back of the house there is a little vent type thing at the base. That is actually the part you blow into because the house is also a whistle. The best part is it actually works!

Clay Bird

The clay bird is a fun spin on the classic pinch pot project we all did in beginning ceramics. My cooperating teacher showed it to me and I thought it was creative. My students liked it way more than the normal pinch pots. They produced some really nice work too. This was one of my demos. Maybe I'll put up a tutorial if anyone is interested.

Christmas Blues

I've been feeling a bit of the Christmas blues lately so I decided to build a house with Santa coming down (or more like falling down) the chimney. I gave my students an assignment to build a clay whistle (that worked) and then to disguise it somehow so when I looked at it I didn't see a whistle. Some made a flower, some made animals of sorts. This is my whistle, and yes, it works.

Well, since it's been months since I've posted anything I thought this would be appropriate. it's a toilet. Made out of cardboard. For a class I had. It was fun. I spent all night doing it because I got into one of those zones and I just kinda kept going. Plus it was due the next day.
